subj: cessation of in-person instruction for remainder of 2019 - 2020

    ladies & gentlemen,

Governor Ralph Northam issued Executive Order #53 yesterday containing directives which affect all of us, but the most pertinent stipulates the “cessation of all in-person instruction at K-12 schools, public and private, for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school yearhg0088地址.” Needless to say this is an unprecedented action and will present significant challenges for all schools including us.

hg0088地址we are awaiting specific guidance from the virginia department of education (vdoe) which will be followed by interpretations from the virginia council for private education (vcpe) and our accrediting agency, the virginia association of independent schools (vais). we will need to incorporate the guidance issued by these educational governing agencies into our on-line curriculum in order to ensure academic integrity and educational equity.

the governor’s order does not close fishburne and the school year is not over. we will continue to work to culminate the school year. we will transition tasks to “telework” as appropriate, but some endeavors will require people to be on post to accomplish. we will adhere to proper social distancing and other precautions as specified by the cdc and virginia department of health.

currently admissions is working from home while buildings & grounds, development, communications and finance are on site. academics and operations are on break. the faculty and cadet development instructors will report on 30 march and possibly work through 03 april. the faculty will concentrate on the development and completion of the on-line curriculum, and the cadet development instructors will work in conjunction with building & grounds. following satisfactory completion of the on-line curriculum we will determine what aspects of the on-line syllabus will be completed from the school and what can be accomplished from home. that decision will primarily be determined by individual faculty members and approved by the headmaster.

we will be venturing into uncharted waters as we finish the year. i have been impressed with your professionalism to this point, and i am confident in your ability to overcome the challenges before us as we successfully complete this academic school year.

    hg0088地址ladies & gentlemen,

it has been a challenging couple of weeks, but i am happy to report the cadets have completed their third marking period exams and have departed barracks to be reunited with you, their families. i sincerely thank all of you for your cooperation during this unprecedented time. i also wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our faculty and staff who have performed stalwartly in the face of much adversity over the last two weeks.

the fishburne military school spring break will conclude april 5, 2020. i hope all of you will enjoy the company of your sons during this extended period. the faculty and staff will be preparing for the subsequent return of the cadets and also planning for the myriad of alterations which could occur in the interim.

we will be speaking with the local and district virginia department of health offices to determine the best way to receive returning cadets and develop a protocol to ensure their well-being during the completion of the school year. i can’t emphasize this enough. if your son shows signs of illness prior to returning, please keep him at home and seek appropriate medical attention. we will determine how to complete his scholastic requirements following the restoration of his good health.

by april 5, 2020 fishburne will have the appropriate plans in place to complete the school year on site, or if conditions dictate successfully culminate the curriculum through other means. as many of you are aware governor northum closed all k-12 schools, both public and private, in virginia until march 27. we will pay scrupulous attention to the commonwealth’s decision on how we will move forward after next friday.

hg0088地址we have all been exposed to a great deal in recent days. but, we all have much to be thankful for this spring break. i ask that we each take time to enjoy the company of our loved ones as we live through a historical moment in our nation’s history. there will undoubtedly be additional alterations to the situation. fishburne will be both flexible and communicate these changes to each of you to the maximum extent possible based on the information we have at the time.

hg0088地址be careful and be safe. may the lord bless each of you, and we look forward to the cadets’ return on april 5.

subj: fishburne military school covid-19 (coronavirus) planning

fishburne military school continues to closely monitor the situation regarding covid-19 (coronavirus) and has implemented a series of campus-wide preventative measures as recommended by our nursing staff in conjunction with the recommendations of local health department officials. there have been no cases of covid-19 on post or any reported cases in our immediate vicinity.

current guidance from the waynesboro-augusta department of health and the national centers for disease control and prevention instructs us to focus our ongoing efforts on education and prevention until further notice. by promoting proper hygiene practices; by ensuring sanitary conditions throughout the school; and, by screening anyone wishing to visit our campus, fishburne military school fully expects to remain on top of the situation.

fishburne’s nursing staff has conducted an in-depth information session with the corps of cadets. throughout their presentation, the infirmary staff stressed the importance of proper hand-washing techniques; avoiding touching one’s face or eyes; and properly covering one’s mouth when coughing or sneezing. all surfaces and bathroom facilities throughout the post are being treated by fms maintenance with a sanitizing, bleach solution. the catering staff and cadet mess hall workers, with the help of cadet development instructors and members of the guard team, are working to ensure that cadets follow best health practices while in the mess hall.

going forward, fms nursing will be participating in a cdc webinar regarding prevention and potential treatment of anyone who may become infected. fms will continue to seek and follow the guidance from public health agencies. any cadet suspected of contracting covid-19 will be quarantined within a specifically designation portion of the barracks until tested and diagnosed by professionals from the waynesboro-augusta department of health.

fishburne military school is currently evaluating appropriate courses of action for upcoming events such as spring break, alumni weekend and graduation with local health officials to ensure we are doing our utmost to prevent the spread of covid-19. any alterations or cancellations to the published schedule for the remainder of the school year will be clearly conveyed and explained to all parties concerned at the soonest possible time.

    gentlemen,

hg0088地址i have written several letters recently regarding the challenges we face in completing your fishburne education during the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. we are completing the on-line curriculum and hope to publish it by 01 apr.

this letter will not address fishburne’s coronavirus response other than to cite it as the genesis of the events that will transpire. this letter is meant to address something much more important.

first, i want to convey my earnest sorrow that you will not be able to complete your senior year here at fishburne on post. neither i nor anyone else has any control over that; it falls in the providence of the lord. nevertheless, i lament you will not be able to enjoy your last two months here prior to venturing into your future pursuit whether it is college, the military or the workforce. the culmination of one’s senior year is replete with memories which, at a place like fishburne, is magnified even more considering what each of you have accomplished. i regret you will not have the same experience as most of those who have preceded you.

throughout the course of this year we have discussed leadership and its significance. the majority of you have definitely performed your designated responsibilities. while we have had the nominal difficulties seen in any school year, the members of the fishburne military school class of 2020 have carried out your roles as leaders and as the senior class exceedingly well. you can now see the value of leadership in crisis situations. the nation and the world now reside in turmoil, and it is critical for poised men to lead the masses through the malaise. it is what we have attempted to prepare each of you for - to lead those around you unceasingly but particularly in times of calamity.

hg0088地址we will transition the curriculum to on-line, and we will conclude this year successfully by adapting, incorporating innovation and ultimately overcoming the challenges before us. i need each of you to focus throughout these next two months and finish strong; break the tape. i can make no guarantees, but i and the fishburne family have every intention of conducting a graduation ball and commencement ceremony for the fms class of 2020. i cannot with any clarity say how or when these will occur, but we are collectively committed to doing everything in our power to ensure that this becomes a reality. i want to see all of you there to reap the reward of your efforts.

summon yourself to concentrate as you push through this last quarter. while your experience will not be the same as those who came before you, it will be unique. be safe and be well; i look forward to seeing you in the near future.

hg0088地址the fishburne faculty will complete the transition of our syllabus to an online format next week. we will complete the final quarter utilizing this design due to the current constraints. members of the faculty and staff have participated throughout this past week in a number of conferences with other schools who have already implemented their distance learning curriculums; we aim to incorporate their lessons learned. our concentration will be on the key principles of each course.

hg0088地址we intend to publish the plan by midweek. expect frequent contact from teachers and staff to assist in directing your son through the fourth quarter. communication will be vital. email will likely be the most convenient form of contact, but it would be helpful for your son’s academic advisor to know the best time to reach you by phone. please contact either mrs. kathy berrang (kberrang@hotelbojenci.com / 540.946.7700 ext 115) or ltc greene (bgreene@hotelbojenci.com / 540.946.7700 ext 162) if any additional assistance is required or questions persist.

hg0088地址we recognize an online syllabus is a significant deviation from the structured environment your son is accustomed to at fishburne. your son is being thrusted into a situation requiring more individual responsibility and self-discipline. we understand that we will need to guide him in navigating through these uncharted waters successfully. fishburne will attempt to channel your son’s attention as much as possible to aid him in the successful completion of his courses. we will undoubtedly need your assistance along the way; we welcome the partnership.

hg0088地址fishburne will adapt the first semester of the 2020 – 2021 academic year to account for the manner in which this year will conclude. it is customary for the first couple of weeks to be a review of the previous year’s content, but we will specifically design the first three weeks of our 2020 – 2021 coursework to reinforce the key elements of this fourth quarter. so when your son returns next year, this concerted scholastic effort will better enable him to smoothly transiton into the new and more advanced material.

    gentlemen,

hg0088地址i have written several letters recently regarding the challenges we face in completing your fishburne education during the midst of the covid-19 pandemic. we are completing the on-line curriculum and hope to publish it by 01 apr.

this letter will not address fishburne’s coronavirus response other than to cite it as the genesis of the events that will transpire. this letter is meant to address something much more important.

hg0088地址first, i want to convey my earnest sorrow that you will not be able to complete your senior year here at fishburne on post. neither i nor anyone else has any control over that; it falls in the providence of the lord. nevertheless, i lament you will not be able to enjoy your last two months here prior to venturing into your future pursuit whether it is college, the military or the workforce. the culmination of one’s senior year is replete with memories which, at a place like fishburne, is magnified even more considering what each of you have accomplished. i regret you will not have the same experience as most of those who have preceded you.

throughout the course of this year we have discussed leadership and its significance. the majority of you have definitely performed your designated responsibilities. while we have had the nominal difficulties seen in any school year, the members of the fishburne military school class of 2020 have carried out your roles as leaders and as the senior class exceedingly well. you can now see the value of leadership in crisis situations. the nation and the world now reside in turmoil, and it is critical for poised men to lead the masses through the malaise. it is what we have attempted to prepare each of you for - to lead those around you unceasingly but particularly in times of calamity.

we will transition the curriculum to on-line, and we will conclude this year successfully by adapting, incorporating innovation and ultimately overcoming the challenges before us. i need each of you to focus throughout these next two months and finish strong; break the tape. i can make no guarantees, but i and the fishburne family have every intention of conducting a graduation ball and commencement ceremony for the fms class of 2020. i cannot with any clarity say how or when these will occur, but we are collectively committed to doing everything in our power to ensure that this becomes a reality. i want to see all of you there to reap the reward of your efforts.

summon yourself to concentrate as you push through this last quarter. while your experience will not be the same as those who came before you, it will be unique. be safe and be well; i look forward to seeing you in the near future.

    dear fishburne parent,

hg0088地址the fishburne faculty will complete the transition of our syllabus to an online format next week. we will complete the final quarter utilizing this design due to the current constraints. members of the faculty and staff have participated throughout this past week in a number of conferences with other schools who have already implemented their distance learning curriculums; we aim to incorporate their lessons learned. our concentration will be on the key principles of each course.

hg0088地址we intend to publish the plan by midweek. expect frequent contact from teachers and staff to assist in directing your son through the fourth quarter. communication will be vital. email will likely be the most convenient form of contact, but it would be helpful for your son’s academic advisor to know the best time to reach you by phone. please contact either mrs. kathy berrang (kberrang@hotelbojenci.com / 540.946.7700 ext 115) or ltc greene (bgreene@hotelbojenci.com / 540.946.7700 ext 162) if any additional assistance is required or questions persist.

we recognize an online syllabus is a significant deviation from the structured environment your son is accustomed to at fishburne. your son is being thrusted into a situation requiring more individual responsibility and self-discipline. we understand that we will need to guide him in navigating through these uncharted waters successfully. fishburne will attempt to channel your son’s attention as much as possible to aid him in the successful completion of his courses. we will undoubtedly need your assistance along the way; we welcome the partnership.

fishburne will adapt the first semester of the 2020 – 2021 academic year to account for the manner in which this year will conclude. it is customary for the first couple of weeks to be a review of the previous year’s content, but we will specifically design the first three weeks of our 2020 – 2021 coursework to reinforce the key elements of this fourth quarter. so when your son returns next year, this concerted scholastic effort will better enable him to smoothly transiton into the new and more advanced material.

be safe and be well; godspeed.

    hg0088地址ladies & gentlemen,

a number of families have contacted the school requesting information on how they can pick up their cadet’s personal items from the barracks in lieu governor northam’s executive order. we are currently devising procedures to accommodate this request.

fishburne will need to coordinate the pickup of cadet personal items to ensure the safety and well-being of cadets, their families and our staff. this constraint will limit the number of people allowed in the barracks at any one time in order to be in adherence of the governor’s restriction on the number of people at any single gathering.

we will allocate two hour time blocks beginning monday, march 30 and continue through friday, april 03. please contact mrs. kathy berrang, director of student services, to reserve a specific day and time to enter barracks to retrieve your son’s personal items.

we would like to stress if you or your son have illness symptoms please do not come to the post. please inform mrs. berrang of your inability to pick up your son’s items, and we will coordinate an alternative method of either delivering or storing them on site.

subj: cessation of in-person instruction for remainder of 2019 - 2020

    hg0088地址ladies & gentlemen,

Governor Ralph Northam issued Executive Order #53 yesterday containing directives which affect all of us, but the most pertinent stipulates the “cessation of all in-person instruction at K-12 schools, public and private, for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.” Needless to say this is an unprecedented action and will present significant challenges for all schools including us.

we are awaiting specific guidance from the virginia department of education (vdoe) which will be followed by interpretations from the virginia council for private education (vcpe) and our accrediting agency, the virginia association of independent schools (vais). we will need to incorporate the guidance issued by these educational governing agencies into our on-line curriculum in order to ensure academic integrity and educational equity.

the governor’s order does not close fishburne and the school year is not over. we will continue to work to culminate the school year. we will transition tasks to “telework” as appropriate, but some endeavors will require people to be on post to accomplish. we will adhere to proper social distancing and other precautions as specified by the cdc and virginia department of health.

currently admissions is working from home while buildings & grounds, development, communications and finance are on site. academics and operations are on break. the faculty and cadet development instructors will report on 30 march and possibly work through 03 april. the faculty will concentrate on the development and completion of the on-line curriculum, and the cadet development instructors will work in conjunction with building & grounds. following satisfactory completion of the on-line curriculum we will determine what aspects of the on-line syllabus will be completed from the school and what can be accomplished from home. that decision will primarily be determined by individual faculty members and approved by the headmaster.

we will be venturing into uncharted waters as we finish the year. i have been impressed with your professionalism to this point, and i am confident in your ability to overcome the challenges before us as we successfully complete this academic school year.

    ladies & gentlemen,

hg0088地址it has been a challenging couple of weeks, but i am happy to report the cadets have completed their third marking period exams and have departed barracks to be reunited with you, their families. i sincerely thank all of you for your cooperation during this unprecedented time. i also wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our faculty and staff who have performed stalwartly in the face of much adversity over the last two weeks.

hg0088地址the fishburne military school spring break will conclude april 5, 2020. i hope all of you will enjoy the company of your sons during this extended period. the faculty and staff will be preparing for the subsequent return of the cadets and also planning for the myriad of alterations which could occur in the interim.

we will be speaking with the local and district virginia department of health offices to determine the best way to receive returning cadets and develop a protocol to ensure their well-being during the completion of the school year. i can’t emphasize this enough. if your son shows signs of illness prior to returning, please keep him at home and seek appropriate medical attention. we will determine how to complete his scholastic requirements following the restoration of his good health.

hg0088地址by april 5, 2020 fishburne will have the appropriate plans in place to complete the school year on site, or if conditions dictate successfully culminate the curriculum through other means. as many of you are aware governor northum closed all k-12 schools, both public and private, in virginia until march 27. we will pay scrupulous attention to the commonwealth’s decision on how we will move forward after next friday.

hg0088地址we have all been exposed to a great deal in recent days. but, we all have much to be thankful for this spring break. i ask that we each take time to enjoy the company of our loved ones as we live through a historical moment in our nation’s history. there will undoubtedly be additional alterations to the situation. fishburne will be both flexible and communicate these changes to each of you to the maximum extent possible based on the information we have at the time.

hg0088地址be careful and be safe. may the lord bless each of you, and we look forward to the cadets’ return on april 5.

hg0088地址fishburne military school continues to closely monitor the situation regarding covid-19 (coronavirus) and has implemented a series of campus-wide preventative measures as recommended by our nursing staff in conjunction with the recommendations of local health department officials. there have been no cases of covid-19 on post or any reported cases in our immediate vicinity.

hg0088地址current guidance from the waynesboro-augusta department of health and the national centers for disease control and prevention instructs us to focus our ongoing efforts on education and prevention until further notice. by promoting proper hygiene practices; by ensuring sanitary conditions throughout the school; and, by screening anyone wishing to visit our campus, fishburne military school fully expects to remain on top of the situation.

fishburne’s nursing staff has conducted an in-depth information session with the corps of cadets. throughout their presentation, the infirmary staff stressed the importance of proper hand-washing techniques; avoiding touching one’s face or eyes; and properly covering one’s mouth when coughing or sneezing. all surfaces and bathroom facilities throughout the post are being treated by fms maintenance with a sanitizing, bleach solution. the catering staff and cadet mess hall workers, with the help of cadet development instructors and members of the guard team, are working to ensure that cadets follow best health practices while in the mess hall.

going forward, fms nursing will be participating in a cdc webinar regarding prevention and potential treatment of anyone who may become infected. fms will continue to seek and follow the guidance from public health agencies. any cadet suspected of contracting covid-19 will be quarantined within a specifically designation portion of the barracks until tested and diagnosed by professionals from the waynesboro-augusta department of health.

fishburne military school is currently evaluating appropriate courses of action for upcoming events such as spring break, alumni weekend and graduation with local health officials to ensure we are doing our utmost to prevent the spread of covid-19. any alterations or cancellations to the published schedule for the remainder of the school year will be clearly conveyed and explained to all parties concerned at the soonest possible time.

    dear cadet,

the faculty and staff of fishburne military school hope you and your families are well. our preference was to finish the 2019-2020 academic year on campus, but the covid-19 pandemic means we will instead move forward with a new challenge for fms, online learning.

our faculty and staff have expeditiously worked very hard to create a robust online educational experience allowing you to finish the academic year, earn needed credits for graduation, improve your gpa and prepare you for the next stage of your academic pursuits.

hg0088地址the fms faculty and staff are dedicated to providing you the most complete and equitable educational experience possible. we have decided against live-streaming classes because of differences in family dynamics, time zones and various obstacles. we will instead utilize an asynchronous educational approach. teachers will publish lessons and assignments in google classroom each monday and require those assignments to be done and turned in on friday.

in order to award a class credit for your courses, fishburne must document your attendance. we’ll do this by having teachers post a brief daily assignment for each class. you will be required to answer and turn-in each assignment for a grade on a daily basis by 2359 (11:59 pm) est.

hg0088地址we did communicate an alteration to one element of our initial plans. on 02 apr mrs. kathy berrang sent a notification email informing everyone that the scheduling of the pick-up of your son’s personal items had to be temporary put on hold until at least 30 april. we were advised by local health department officials this was the best way forward considering the on-going covid-19 situation.

as 30 apr draws closer, we will access the circumstances to determine if further alterations are required to schedule the pick-up or your cadet’s personal items. we appreciate your patience and understanding during these unusual and trying times.

    gentlemen,

greetings; i hope this letter finds each of you safe and well. we are nearing the end of the year much differently than any of us could have ever anticipated. i want to congratulate all of you individually and as a class. you have been dealt difficult circumstances and have handled it very well. we have experienced few problems since reverting to an online curriculum which is reflective of your leadership as a class throughout this school year.

hg0088地址i informed you in one of my first letters that fishburne’s intention was to conduct an on-site graduation commencement ceremony. i want to reaffirm that objective. we will ultimately have to adhere to federal, state and local direction. graduation week is filled with a number of events, and we will not be able to replicate all them during an abbreviated schedule. the purpose of this letter is to solicit your preferences. we will likely only have one day to conduct the program, and we want to afford you an input regarding the events you value the most.

hg0088地址we will be issuing a survey either this evening or tomorrow consisting of all of the events normally conducted during graduation weekend. please indicate which of these events mean the most to you. i would ask you discuss it as a class if possible. we will tabulate the results, and report them back as early as possible. following the results, i will initiate a video conference with the corps leadership (bc, xo and company commanders) to discuss the implications of the results and how to proceed considering the multitude of planning factors which will exist.

hg0088地址this is a special moment in each of your lives, and we want to make sure and recognize it along with your achievements. when you receive the survey please expeditiously fill it out and return it. i will subsequently contact the corps leaders via their hotelbojenci.com email accounts.

hg0088地址finish this week strong and strenuously prepare for your exams. run to the end and “break the tape” with authority. each of you have accomplished a great deal and have a lot to look forward to in the future. we hope to deliver you an appropriate launch.

be safe and be well; godspeed.

    01june2020

from: m. e. black, capt usn (retired), superintendent, fishburne military school

to: parents of fishburne military school 2020 graduates

hg0088地址subj: fishburne military school on-site commencement c plan

    hg0088地址greeting parents,

hg0088地址i sincerely hope this letter finds you and your family well and healthy. this document outlines the requirements and fishburne military school's plan to host an on-site graduation program for the fms class of 2020. the primary date for the ceremony will be 27 june; the secondary date will be 18 july. our plan is contingent upon the governor of virginia transitioning the commonwealth to phase ii of the re-opening schedule. our objective is to offer your son an appropriate on-site graduation program while adhering to government guidelines and achieving the utmost degree of safety for you, your family and our faculty and staff.

    graduation program outline:

hg0088地址• 0900: registration and screening - graduates will be processed first in order to ensure proper grooming standards, retrieval of their tunics and preparation for the ceremony.

hg0088地址- all will enter post via 11th street hobby-hudgins hall entrance.

hg0088地址6 foot social distance will be required.

    - Once registered and screened, guests will exit the doors facing Anderson Field and
proceed to an assigned tent and table
    remaining there throughout the program.

    hg0088地址• 1100: awards assembly

hg0088地址• 1200: senior lunch - 2020 taps dedication will occur during the luncheon.

    • 1300: commencement ceremony -

hg0088地址- preceding the ceremony, graduates and their mothers will assemble in yount

hg0088地址barracks archway for the mothers' walk through the arch of swords.

hg0088地址i. mothers will accompany their sons from the archway to anderson field going

down the stairs. pictures will be taken and mailed to home address

ii. mothers will return to their assigned tent as their son proceeds to field center.

hg0088地址• final formation - will occur post commencement ceremony in the quadrangle. guests will

be assigned to separate viewing areas within yount barracks for this climatic event.

below are the required protocols and criteria for participation:

hg0088地址• a rsvp for graduates and guests will be mandatory.

hg0088地址- notification of attendance will be required 10 days prior to graduation date.

    - no additions can be made after that date.

    • a screening process will be required.

    - those who rsvp will be sent a questionnaire to be filled out and returned; we ask this be sent to the school electronically prior to the graduation date.

hg0088地址- all participants will have their temperatures taken and be issued a facemask at registration. if desired, you may bring your own facemask for the event.

hg0088地址• for the safety of all participants, if you or any of your party have been exposed to someone with a positive covid-19 test result or have exhibited symptoms associated with the virus, we ask you/they not attend. further, we recommend those older than 65 or who possess an underlying medical condition as defined by the centers for disease control also not attend.

many of our contemporary schools have opted to conduct either virtual or individual graduation ceremonies while some plan to delay their commencement until the fall. we at fishburne military school and the fishburne-hudgins educational foundation believe the brotherhood forged during one's cadetship at fishburne is unique and requires an appropriate culmination and the end of the academic year.

needless to say the events of the last three months have been tumultuous and unprecedented. but, we believe we designed a feasible itinerary which will encompass the applicable safety precautions to conduct this graduation program successfully. we avow the fishburne military school class of 2020 deserves nothing less than an appropriate launch to their futures.

virginia is slated to enter into phase ii of the re-opening schedule 12 june. we will monitor the commonwealth's progress and report that progress accordingly in time. we appreciate your patience as we have worked through the myriad of guidelines associated with conducting an event of this magnitude under the current circumstances.

hg0088地址be well and be safe. godspeed.

    very respectfully,

    M. Black, CAPT USN (Ret)

    2020-2021 Reopening Plan (COVID response)
Fishburne Military School will resume on-campus instruction for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Leadership Training Detail will report on 9 August. All Remaining Cadets report on 15 August and Classes will begin on 18 August.

    june 24, 2020

from: m. e. black, capt usn (retired), superintendent

hg0088地址to: fishburne military school cadets, parents, faculty, staff and prospective families

subj: fishburne military school 2020 – 2021 reopening plan

hg0088地址i wish to express our sincere gratitude for your patience, support and feedback during the past several months as we dealt with the start of the covid-19 pandemic. despite ever-changing guidelines from the local, state and federal governments, i’m happy to present our plans for the 2020-2021 academic year.

the cadet leadership training program (cltp), for cadets selected to compete for leadership posts, will kick off the year on august 9. the remainder of the corps, both new cadets and “old men,” will follow on august 15. classes will begin august 18 and the heralded first formation will be held august 19. in a key change from previous years, the first semester will conclude with cadets’ departure for thanksgiving.

we utilized the following principles in the formation of our re-opening plan in order to continue the mission of forging educated honorable young men of courage.

hg0088地址1.ensure safe learning and working environments for cadets and staff

hg0088地址2.maximize in-school cadet learning experiences as allowable by state guidelines

hg0088地址3.ensure all cadets receive instruction meeting compulsory standards and have the necessary supports for their ultimate success

hg0088地址4.provide training, time, and support necessary for staff to prepare for successful reopening

5.provide proactive, clear communication to all cadets, staff and families

we developed this plan by reviewing the centers for disease control (cdc) literature, through dialogue with the local virginia department of health and the central virginia health department along with consistent conversations with other heads of school from the virginia association of independent schools (vais) and lectures delivered by the national association of independent schools (nais).

hg0088地址the shenandoah valley area of virginia has been spared most of the ravages of covid-19. testing has been expanded in the valley. positive test results are relatively the same as the statewide norm which is significantly less than the more densely populated areas of the commonwealth. we fully anticipate the situation may change throughout the upcoming year as it has for the last three months. we plan to be innovative and responsive to the challenges. should virginia see increasing covid-19 cases, our plan is to shelter in place. symptomatic cadets will be kept in isolation until proper testing is complete, and we will make accommodations for those families who prefer their sons participate via distance learning.

hg0088地址the execution of the school year will be unlike any other. we have had to implement numerous alterations in the attempt to mitigate the possibility of cadets, faculty or staff contracting the virus. measures we plan to utilize in an effort to thwart the spread of covid-19 at fishburne include:

the campus will be a restricted sanctuary environment throughout the year

hg0088地址anyone entering the post will be required to enter at a single point of entry (operations office in the barracks archway) where they will answer pertinent screening questions and have their temperature taken. anyone with a temperature over 100º will not be allowed on campus.

significant emphasis will be made on cleanliness, sanitation and personal hygiene throughout the school year for faculty, staff and cadets.

the cadets, along with faculty and staff, will be monitored daily for covid-19 symptoms.

hg0088地址individuals exhibiting covid-19 symptoms will be quarantined in designated spaces and, in concert with virginia department of health officials, tested accordingly.

hg0088地址faculty, staff and cadets will use face coverings to diminish the spread of the virus.

social distancing will be practiced where applicable.

cadets will be encouraged to confide with their mentors any apprehensions; local counseling resources can be coordinated via the infirmary.

a key academic focus for the year will be to evaluate each cadet’s subject matter comprehension. the faculty will concentrate classroom time to bring skills up to date and utilize individual assignments and instruction during help class for cadets needing additional assistance. there will be a virtual element throughout the school year in every class. one of the beneficial lessons learned from last year’s distance learning is the degree of academic accountability inherent in google classroom and the transparency it provides parents. the virtual aspect of each class also allows us to provide distance learning for those wishing to have that opportunity.

we anticipate the coming school year will be unique in the 142-year history of fishburne military school. it will test all of us to be adept at adjusting to ever-changing circumstances. rest assured that fishburne military school is dedicated to the safety, health, welfare and education of your sons.

adversity does not build character, it reveals it. the situation over the last three months and the circumstances for the next twelve will be challenging, but we at fishburne military school have withstood the test of time. we intend to demonstrate that mettle again throughout the 2020-2021 academic year. for those who have committed to be here through these unprecedented times, we look forward to the opportunities we will share. for those who want to give their sons an education which will last a lifetime and immerse them into a global brotherhood, we hope you will join us. if you have questions or are interested, please contact our business manager, ltc steve wilson by emailing swilson@hotelbojenci.com or by calling 540-946-7700 ext 102.

be safe and be well; godspeed.
